Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

This policy explains what personal data histographiq collects, why, and how it is handled. The service is operated by iondata Sàrl, Arnex-sur-Nyon, Switzerland (info@iondata.co), who acts as data controller.

1. Data we collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

  • Account information — your username and email address, provided when you register.
  • Content you create — maps, events, descriptions, and any text or images you add to your account.
  • AI assistant messages — the messages you send to the assistant and the responses generated.
  • Usage data — basic request counts used to enforce daily usage limits. No browsing behaviour, advertising identifiers, or tracking data of any kind is collected.

We do not use tracking cookies. The only cookies set are those strictly necessary for keeping you logged in and protecting your session.

2. Why we collect it

Your data is used solely to provide and maintain the service:

  • Authentication — to create and secure your account.
  • Saving your work — to store the maps and events you create.
  • AI assistant — to send your messages to the AI model and return responses.
  • Usage limits — to enforce fair-use quotas on AI requests.

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with any party not listed in section 4.

3. AI processing

The AI assistant is powered by Claude, made by Anthropic. When you send a message to the assistant, that message — along with context about your current map — is transmitted to Anthropic's API for processing.

Anthropic's handling of this data is governed by Anthropic's privacy policy. According to Anthropic's API terms, data submitted via the API is not used to train Anthropic's models.

We recommend not including sensitive personal information in messages sent to the assistant.

4. Third-party services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Anthropic (United States) — AI processing. Messages sent to the assistant are processed by Anthropic. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
  • Infomaniak (Switzerland) — server hosting, file storage, and transactional email. Your account data and content are stored on Infomaniak's infrastructure in Switzerland. See Infomaniak's privacy policy.
  • MapTiler (Switzerland) — map tile rendering. When you view a map, your browser requests tiles from MapTiler's servers. These requests may include your approximate IP address. No personal account data is shared. See MapTiler's privacy policy.
  • Wikimedia / Wikipedia — image suggestions. When the assistant suggests an image, the image URL is fetched from Wikimedia Commons. No personal data is included in these requests.

5. Data storage and retention

All data is stored on servers operated by Infomaniak in Switzerland.

  • Draft content and conversation logs — automatically purged after a set period of inactivity.
  • Published maps and events — retained until you delete your account or delete the content manually.
  • Account data — retained for as long as your account is active. Deleting your account removes all associated data permanently.

6. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data at any time.

  • Account deletion — you can delete your account and all associated data from Account settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
  • Other requests — to request a copy of your data, correct inaccurate information, or ask any other data-related question, contact us at info@iondata.co.

We will respond to data requests within 30 days.

7. Age and parental guidance

histographiq is intended for use in educational settings, primarily secondary schools. The service is designed to be used under teacher supervision. Users under the age of 16 should use the service with the guidance of a parent or educator.

If you believe a minor has provided personal data without appropriate consent, please contact us at info@iondata.co and we will remove it promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
